Some people forgive but don’t forget

Some people forget but don’t forgive

Forgiving whilst holding that sense of regret

Or carrying a burden & still trying to live

See, with forgiveness, you don’t win or lose

To forgive is strictly something you decide to choose

Powerless after, yes you may feel

But it takes time for a wounded heart to heal

You’re still angry & emotions still high

But forgiving is right,you just can’t understand why

They hurt me and they did me wrong

And it breaks me that I trusted them all this long

And now I forgive, let it go so they still win

Smile in their face but I’m scarred by their sin

Maybe forgiveness isn’t the problem, what if it’s me?

What if we’re all just scared,don’t you agree?

What if we’re scared to forget, put it behind us?

What if we know never again will we be able to trust?

What if we feel like forgiveness makes us now weak?

What if now they see through us, every time we speak?

So the question is why?

Why do we still try?

Try to forgive

Why do we still lie?

And say that it’s okay

When the hurt doesn’t die

Pain still shatters our chests

So we break down and cry

Because the burden still exists

That same burden we deny

And I’ll always remember

That hot summer’s day in July

When I felt your betrayal

The one I can’t let forgiveness justify

Because it feels like you’re getting away

With breaking my heart & letting the friendship die

I almost feel vulnerable , exposed

Both so obvious & easy to identify

Now you did that to me, or was it forgiving?

Okay, now I’m confused

Look at all the stress it’s bringing

Do I truly want to , am I even ready?

Is it even pure forgiveness?

My thoughts remain wild & unsteady

Forgiveness isn’t something you can easily pretend

The weight of the burden & bitterness of the grudge

Imprints on your heart & soul till the very end.
